In den äquatornahen inneren Tropen liegen die Monatsmitteltemperaturen zwischen 25°C und 27°C, hier herrscht in der Regel immerfeuchtes tropisches Klima (tropisches Regenwaldklima). Die Jahresniederschlagsmengen erreichen typischerweise um 2000 mm, die höchsten Niederschlagsmengen fallen im Jahresverlauf mit den Zeiten der Sonnenhöchststände zusammen (Zenitalregen) und es gibt keine Trockenzeit. In den äußeren Tropen tritt dagegen bei insgesamt geringeren Niederschlägen eine winterliche Trockenzeit auf. Einige Areale der Tropen werden auch von Steppen- oder Wüstenklima eingenommen."

A tropical climate in the Köppen climate classification is a non-arid climate in which all twelve months have mean temperatures of at least 18 °C (64 °F). In tropical climates there are often only two seasons: a wet season and a dry season. Tropical climates are frost-free and changes in the solar angle are small. In tropical climates temperature remains relatively constant (hot) throughout the year.
